    How to play Nesso

    Objective

Score the most points by building lines of tiles that share a color (different shapes) or a shape (different colors).

    Tile set

    108 tiles: 6 colors × 6 shapes × 3 copies. Each player holds up to 6 tiles.

    Starting the game

Each player’s largest unique group of same-color or same-shape tiles determines who starts. Ties break by player order (enter oldest first in local multiplayer to mirror the physical age rule). The opening play must use a maximum-sized group and include the center cell (0,0).

    Legal lines

Every line of two or more tiles must be all one color with different shapes, or all one shape with different colors. No duplicate color+shape in the same line. Lines cannot exceed six tiles.

    Legal (same color)

    Invalid (mixed)

    Playing multiple tiles

All tiles played on a turn must share one row or one column. They may be separated by tiles already on the board, but not by empty gaps.

    Connection

After the opening move, at least one new tile must touch an existing tile orthogonally (not only diagonally).

    Cross-line rules

Every new tile must be legal in both directions. A tile may match horizontally by color and vertically by shape.

    Exchanging tiles

Instead of placing, exchange one or more rack tiles. Draw replacements first, return exchanged tiles to the bag, shuffle, score zero. You cannot exchange more tiles than remain in the bag.

    Scoring

Score 1 point per tile in each distinct line you create or extend (including existing tiles). A completed six-tile line is a Nesso: 6 + 6 bonus = 12 for that line. Multiple Nessos in one turn each get a bonus.

    Ending the game

When the bag is empty and a player plays their last tile, they get a +6 finishing bonus and the game ends. Highest score wins; ties are ties. If the bag is empty and everyone must pass with no moves, the game ends without the finishing bonus.
